Outdoor Entertainment Ideas

The Aussie outdoor living area has always played an important role when it comes to hosting family and friends. And to ensure the next backyard event you host, whether it’s a laid back dinner, barbeque or children’s party ticks all the boxes, we’ve put together a list of seasonal outdoor entertainment ideas that will keep both adults and children entertained.

Summer Outdoor Entertainment Ideas

Summer isn’t complete without a traditional backyard barbeque amongst family and friends. Lamb on the barbie with a slab of beer is mandatory, and if you’re lucky enough to have a swimming pool, then entertainment for guests is usually covered as well.
But for those of us who don’t have a pool or want to do something a little different, setting up a backyard movie theatre is a great alternative.

Watching a feel good film on a warm summer night with close friends and family is a great way to relax, have fun and reminisce on the good times. Plus you’ll get a private cinema in your very own backyard!

What you’ll need:

  1. A projector.
  2. A screen. If you have a white wall or fence, then you’re in luck! But for those who don’t, DIY screens are easy. We like the idea of using a white shower curtain.
  3. Audio. Keep the volume in mind as you don’t want to disturb your neighbours
  4. Blankets, pillows and fold up chairs.
  5. A classic, feel good film that’s a favourite amongst your guests.
  6. Mosquito repellent – Bugs and mosquitos love warm weather and your guests. Make sure you’re prepared by keeping this essential on hand.
Autumn Outdoor Entertainment Ideas

Autumn in Australia has long held the tradition of backyard Easter egg hunts.  For children, this means waking up on Easter Monday and scavenging through the garden to find eggs left by the Easter Bunny, and it becomes the parents’ responsibility to make the experience as enjoyable as possible.
So to ensure your next backyard Easter egg hunt is a little more entertaining and exciting, we’ve put together a few tips.

What you’ll need:

  1. Baskets – Give your kids something to do on the lead up to the Easter egg hunt. Buy plain baskets from your local $2 shop, together with craft materials, and get them to decorate their own Easter egg basket.
  2. A theme – Our favourite is a colour theme, where each hunter is assigned a different egg colour they need to fill their basket with. Bonus points for people who find ‘high value’ golden eggs.
  3. A prize
  4. A camera – These moments are precious, so make sure you capture every moment!
Winter Outdoor Entertainment Ideas

Winter nights are characterized by warm fire places, sipping hot chocolate and toasting marshmallows with family and friends. But just because it’s cold outside, it doesn’t mean you need to limit your entertaining space to indoors.

Backyard fire pits are ideal feature for entertaining friends and family in winter. Not only are they one of the most popular landscaping features, but they also create warmth and comfort on a cold winter night and create the perfect atmosphere to toast marshmallows, tell stories and rekindle old relationships.

Fire pits can be DIY, but a lot of modern day backyards or outdoor living spaces won’t give you the option to dig a whole or lay a foundation. An alternative is to find portable backyard fire pits, or get one built in if you’re after a more permanent feature. Contact us today and we’ll discuss the best option for you.

What you’ll need:

  1. A clear space with no fire hazards, large enough to have a fire pit
  2. Portable or built in fire pit
  3. Marshmallows
Spring Outdoor Entertainment Ideas

Spring is one of the best seasons for utilising your outdoor space as the end of winter and shift into summer calls for celebrating with your closest friends and family. Whether you enjoy hosting relaxed backyard dinners, or more elegant tea parties during the day, it’s important that your outdoor space is decorated to create the best atmosphere for entertaining your guests. Here are some of our top tips for creating ambience when hosting spring backyard gatherings:

What you’ll need:

  1. Floral table setting – Add some colour to the table with a fresh floral table setting, made with flowers or greenery from your own garden.
  2. Linen – A nice table cloth is a great way to cover up tables that look a little worse for wear due to the natural elements.
  3. Candles – There’s nothing more romantic than outdoor candle light when the sun goes down. Citronella candles are a great option as they also act as a natural bug and mosquito repellent.
  4. Fairy lights – Don’t limit these to the festive season only. If you have fairy lights packed in a box somewhere, bring them out and drape them across your patio, across your fence or around window frames to add a nice glow.
